#1370: The passing of time, 说长不长,说短不短……

Wow. I totally forgot my login username, my password, everything. I only remember the URL of this blog which used to be my sanctuary. But thanks Google, you made my account recovery so smooth and seamless that I managed to get it up within 10 minutes woohoo!

Anyway, welcome back leggy queen. One of the joys of blogging is knowing I can totally let loose and be myself over here. I really love the tapping on my keyboard when I blog but I guess I'll live with typing on the phone screen for now. 😐

So how have you been, Huimin? You've been missing for MORE THAN TWO YEARS! What made you decide to return?! Well the answer is simple - you're my sanctuary, my 避风港。No one will know I'm here and I can talk about life however and whichever way I want it to be!

Currently I'm at this stage of life where I'm trying to figure out how to transition to the next phase. I just got "educated" that I needed to work on my character flaws in order to be a better person who will in turn, benefit people around me. But the begging question would be, shouldn't I be loved for who I am?

I acknowledge that I'm weird. Sometimes. Well okay, most of the time. I have weird interpretations of things and am a stubborn mule. The most stubborn mule you can ever find. I'm fixated on my thinking and are not receptive to other people's points of views BUT. But but but, there's always a but. I can change and I will change if I set my mind to it. For the greater good. For people I love and care. But would this also mean I'll lose myself? That I won't be Huimin anymore? This is one of the parts I'm vexed about. I don't want to lose myself but it takes little or no effort to psycho me honestly. Will I be happy? What is happiness, really? I don't seem to know anymore... so I'll start searching for the answer! What is it that really makes me happy???? Huimin can you please start living life for YOURSELF for ONCE??!!!!

我只想说,我真的真的很努力……我会很努力

#1369: Hola, the leggy queen is back!

Is this blog even alive? I'll check later, haha, as I'm blogging from the Blogger app.

I'm currently dining at Swensen's Parkway. Just finished my late lunch.

Across me, I observed a family of four, as you can subtlely see from the photo above. Both the mommy and the daddy have zero interaction. The mommy puts on a grudgy face while the daddy scans around as if life outside his cosy family is more entertaining.

I find such families very sad. I may be wrong but I'm thinking there is no love. This could be the result of giving in to habits. "Oh I'm so used to living with XXX, and there need not be mushy little things anymore".

I'll not succumb to such a marital life, ever, for I believe couples can still remain lovey dovey even when their wrinkles form, and hairs turn grey. Just like my parents. Much L.O.V.E.

#1368: It's May, and my 2nd post of 2013

As the title aptly says, it's May and only my 2nd post of 2013.
I know this is not foreign to anyone who knows me but I have the worst time management, ever.
When I get busy, I can disregard food and everything else altogether.

Yes, unfortunately, I have slimmed down quite a bit and garnered many disapproving comments. Geez.

In my defense, I have always wanted to find time to document everything that has happened in my wonderful life but those moments were captured mostly on social media, such as my FB account, Instagram (I'm very active on it) and Twitter (using it less frequently nowadays).

I want to blog about my birthday in March but let's leave it for the next post (which is god knows when, haha).

Simply, let's just back track to April.

April was a verrrrry busy month.(someone once said, "you say this every month, which month is not busy for you, you tell me?")
I can have 7-day-work-week FOR TWO WEEKS and boy, one can imagine the toll on me!
I know I'm a workaholic, I know that. But I just choose to believe to do everything the very best to my ability!
Photo: I worked for 14 days straight but in these two weeks, I visited Krabi (Thailand), attended iProperty's People Choice Awards, attended AKB48 press conference & visited the inaugural Tokyo Auto Salon Singapore 2013, and lastly visited Iskandar (Malaysia) all in the name of work. Am I worn out? You bet I am but the job satisfaction & the exposure given overrides the lethargy. I'm gonna rot in bed the whole day tmr. Zzz.

Hmmm, that means to say that I should blog about work too.
People still don't know what I do exactly, haha!

So, please allow me to digress a little while I give a short introduction to what I do.

Firstly, I didn't search for this job. It came to me.
One fine day, I received a call from a recruitment agent whom I've never contacted before and I simply went down for an interview - first with the agent, then whisked to meet with the Admin head who is my colleague now.
After the meeting with the Admin head, I was asked to go down for a second interview to meet the Director of the company.......at Singapore Polo Club the very next day.
What an ATAS place right.

So next day came and the interview was........I don't know how to put it but it made me feel like I'm gonna sign up for a crash course for whatever the corporate world has in store for me.
My boss is a very capable man and at his age, he's had some pretty notable achievements.
If I tell you to google his name, you'll be surprised by what you read.
But anyway, I still want to keep him anonymous so back to the interview!

I got confirmed on the spot and Boss drove me to the office to collect my BB and I was due to start work the following day - 9th January 2013.
"Yes, we work very fast here" was what my boss told me when I got stunned by the high level of efficiency.
I think, in a way, he has shaped me to match his "fastness" y'know?

5 months into the job, I must say I've had a really steep learning curve.
There ARE stressful moments but with it comes the perks too.
As mentioned, I got to enjoy some of the opportunities that my peers don't, such as overseas work trips, getting to interview celebrities, be an online journalist, meet high net worth clients, attend media launches and conferences and everything else that is fun!
Of course, everything comes at a price and when I say this, I meant the mind, body and soul that are worn out in the process of having "fun".

My rationale is, I'm young, I just started out so I work hard.
That's what all fresh graduates do, and should do.

Okay the sleeping bug is biting.
Till next time~
Here's the corporate Huimin signing off, at Raffles Place Park!

#1367: Hi there, it's been a while...

*blows off the dust*
Yes, you did not see wrongly, the leggy queen is back to blog.
Well, that is if anyone still comes here to read ever since I've gone into hibernation months ago.

Today is the last day of January 2013.
I thought it would mark a good day to return.
A month has simply passed with the blink of an eye.
It feels like just yesterday that I was counting down to 2013, wishing it would be a fruitful year ahead.
So far, everything has been going pretty well, with the big news being me securing my first job upon graduation.

I always believed that some things are meant to happen.
Maybe just some, not all.
That's why I had been telling myself that my time will come.
True enough, I was not actively searching for a job.
It came to me instead and ta-dah, I'm doing something that I'm enjoying despite the endless hours I put in & sacrificing me-time, and of course, precious time with family and friends as well.

Well, I try my bestest best to fork out time to catch up with friends and work around my busy schedule.
C'mon, those who know me should know that I'm PERPETUALLY busy.
Since school time, since like forever.
But one thing is for sure, if you need me, I'll be there.

2012 has twisted my life in more ways that I can imagine.
I just hope that with the passing of time, I could learn to live to be a better person.

Till then, I hope 2013 brings me much joy to look forward to.

#1366: My second sister grew up already

My second sister, Ling suggested to go out for dinner tonight cos' she claimed that the family haven't had dinner outside together in a loooong time.
Her treat some more leh! So touched!
Her kind intention was to promote familial bonding I guess. So guai right oh my gosh.
It was $130 spent for a good cause, haha!
In the end, I also volunteered to halve the contribution la. Heehee.
I think everyone had a really filling dinner and was in good spirits!
Ah, the feeling of being ONE BIG FAMILY!

#1365: Birthdays

The birthdays of my close girlfriends are spaced in consecutive months that span from July to September.
Belle's in July; Renshan's in August; Huiqi's & Amina's in September.

Coincidentally, there are four guys that I used to have a crush on, having their birthdays spaced consecutively a day apart!
And, all four of them are born in the same year.
What an uncanny coincidence!
One celebrates his birthday on the 15th, two on the 16th and another on the 17th.
Let's just name them by their birth dates in this post, haha!
I almost got together with 15th, 16th(1) sang me Jay Chou's "开不了口"in my face and helped me copy notes for history's class, 16th(2) is a national bball player and a very very filial grandson cos he stays with his ah ma and tattooed her face on his left/right back (can't remember which side). BUT, he's always very busy and has no time so we sort of fizzled apart but whenever we get back into contact again, the warm fuzzy feeling is still there. As for 17th, I never thought that we would end up together so it was just a short-lived romance. But I was undoubtedly touched when he remembered to buy 老婆饼 for my mum from Taiwan when I mentioned it in jest.

Sigh. Memories...
You never know the true essence of a moment until it becomes a memory.
How true.

#1364: Brotherly love

I share a group convo on whatsapp with the lads titled "Where is the brotherly love?".
I even created the following collage as our group chat icon.

Having a bunch of really good male buddies feels vastly different from hanging out with your chummy girl friends.
The opposite sex are easier to get along at times cos' they are okay with anything and everything so I don't have to worry about shooting my mouth off lest they get over-sensitive but I really hate it when they get blunt and forgetful and other less-attractive stuff that are tied to the fact that they are males.
Y'know how girls can get over-reactive over the slightest thing and how we can get pretty nasty when it comes to jealousy or how we are constantly pitting against each other in the dark. 明争暗斗。
Ahh girls. *shakes head*
I'm one myself, so I know. Haha!
Then again, like I always say, there are two sides to everything so there exists its pros and cons.

So it was a Sunday yesterday and as usual, I was working.
After I knocked off, I got chuckled by these lads.
When night came, it was pouring heavily and I thought we were not gonna meet up after all.
However, both B and D were quite adamant about heading out for fresh air so me, being The Accommodating Girl as always, left home with a brolly in tow.
Rain or shine, they will be there for me so I must do the same!

Thai sea coconuts from the pasar malam.
Lepak-ed at void deck.
Bus-ed to Siglap for drinks at Georges Mad Bar.
Late night supper at Xin Wang HK cafe.

We always talk about the randomest of things.
Just like how we were on the topic of hugging which eventually led to us talking about bolsters.
I don't know how it began but I was saying research has shown that hugging something to sleep actually boosts one's sleeping quality.
Then B agreed and added that ever since he discarded his bolster before enlisting into the army cos' he views this as the first step to "independence" (without having to rely on his bolster to get to sleep), he actually kind of lost his "sense of security".
I couldn't agree more. I'm someone who needs to HUG something to sleep, hold something close to my heart in order to go to dreamland.
Sounds like a strong reliance but heck, I'm not going to throw my darling bolster away ever since it has accompanied me from the year I was born.
B, being the thinker, actually asks something that is worth pondering over: "If the person being hugged gets his/her sleeping quality improved, what then happens to the person who is hugging him/her? Does he/she get his/her sleep improved too, or worse?"
My oh my, I don't know for sure... Hahaha!

These days, I have a new hugging companion - Didi!
I hug so many things to sleep that I often find my sleeping space compromised, LOL.

#1363: Happy Birthday, Amina and here's your HP post!

You requested for it, so here it is!

Being the extremely avid Harry Potter fans that we are,
we headed to the HP Exhibition together on one drizzling afternoon!

We were so thrilled to be walking into the land of witchcraft and wizardry, and everything that we read in the books and saw in the movies are going to come alive before our very eyes!

The curators were darn strict in enforcing the "No photography, No recording" rule.
I even witnessed for myself a lady who was asked to delete whatever photos she had taken on her digicam right there and then on the spot.
Woah. Despite such difficulties, I managed to act like a pro PI and snapped some shots on the hush myself.

Really expensive merchandise.
I can't help but marvel at how much profit these franchisees can earn from the HP trademark.

The Harry Potter series accompanied me through my teenagehood.
I already consider it a part of my life.

One day, just one day, I'm gonna go crazy and buy the entire collection.
Like, maybe using my first pay or something.
I want my children, and grandchildren to relive the potter adventure altogether.
Putting aside the fact that this is a fantasy novel, the language used in the books can really improve one's proficiency!
I remember jotting down key vocabulary words from these books and using them in my narrative for O levels haha!

This is for Amina! Her idol!

What a monster. In fiction, of course. Haha!

And Amina happens to be one of those fans. Ha.

My HP idol has got to be Severus Snape.

Never fail to tear at this chunk of words whenever I re-read the book.

And my all-time favourite quote?
This.

I see this happening. Haha!

To the dear birthday girl:
HAPPY 23RD BIRTHDAY!
I hope you like the present that has great sentimental value.
Don't know what to get you but I thought people would love to get something they want/like so ta-dah!
I'm also grateful to your sister and mother who were in cahoots with me over the little surprise! Hee.
Although we are both busy with our lives, we must always keep each other in our minds and prayers too!
Really blessed to have you in my life too!
Love you!

#1362: Three's a crowd

I say, "I think I just made things complicated with that confrontation."

You replied, "isn't the current situation simpler because two is in the picture and not three?"

Hmmm makes sense... BUT I'll still say...

"If you ever treat me like just an option, I'll help narrow down your choices real quick & take myself out of the equation. It's that simple."

Because sometimes, some things are only meant for two persons and three's a crowd.

PS: Twitter's not safe for the time being so I hide out here. Thank you dear blog, for being my sanctuary for years and more.

#1361: Happy 47th Birthday, Singapore!

This year's NDP is a nerve-wrecking one as Singaporeans anticipate the showing up of LKY on NDP (or not).
There were rumours in the mill going on about his health and something worse.
I don't know for others but when I first heard it, my hairs stood on end.
He's that influential, to warrant my hairs to stand.
He's the founding father of Singapore and putting aside party relations, he is the man behind what Singapore has become today and no matter which political party we support, there is no denying the efforts of this man and he deserves the utmost respect anyone could give to a person.
So, screw the person who started this malicious rumour man, seriously.

When I saw him appearing on TV, I was sooo damn touched I swear I was on the verge of tears.
HE'S ALIVEEEE AND KICKING!!!!!!!!
And I guess all Singaporeans islandwide feel the same as me.
We are so damn relieved.
This man so deserves the applause and standing ovation of those present at the parade.

I think the following article describes best about this LKY-rumour drama.

I wish our founding father to be in the pink of health always, and to have our scientists invent a kind of elixir so he can live forever.
Just saying.
