#1298: The passion for travel is ignited once more

Before I went to the airport this morning to send Yiwen and Kelly off to HK for their summer school, I held different feelings towards my upcoming trip to Bangkok with a bunch of girlfriends.
To be exact, I was not psyched about the trip. At all.
Which is very weird for someone like me who adoressss travelling.

I love lugging luggages.

And of course, I LOVE AIRPORTS.

Why then, you may ask?
Probably the timing, since I'm gonna miss all 3 lessons for the last week of the trimester where exam tips are bound to be provided by lecturers, plus the fact that once I return, I face exams, or... there exists a combination of factors?
I don't exactly know. I can't quite pin point which, what.
Not even the thought of shopping or visiting the country I was born in thrills me...... until this morning at the airport.

I saw travellers lugging their luggages, anticipation and excitement typical of tourists were plastered on their faces and I thought, "why should I feel sian-ed when I get to enjoy an overseas trip?!!"
Makes no sense right?
Yes, the idea of a vacation means relaxation, stress-free days and I know clearly I may lack that for my BKK trip because I WILL BE mugging when the sun sets BUT it is still a privilege to be able to go overseas, have a good time and loosen some stiff bones.

Lesson learnt: never book a vacation in the midst of a school term, worse, at the last week of the semester.

One of my mottos in life and am trying hard to achieve.

There's a whole world out there for me to EXPLORE.

And I'm diagnosed with "Wanderlust".

PS: This day, next month, I would be on the flight back to Singapore from Bangkok. Now I'm feeling a lil more psyched.

#1296: A little gossip

I'm so comfortable with this lil space of mine that I'm gonna publicise my private life haha.
Wait a second, "publicise" and "private" are kinda oxymorons huh.
Well life is full of irony isn't it. =/

So I went out with this guy yesterday.
I don't quite know him, we only met on two occasions, the first being a mere thirty minutes and no conversation at all while the second was a group outing.
All I know is that he's a darn cheeky fellow when it comes to texting and I could not quite pin point whether I am infuriated by this trait of his cos sometimes, the things that he write can be really amusing.
I find myself laughing and fuming at the same time.
Yes, these polarised reactions can actually occur concurrently, LOL.

I couldn't call our outing yesterday a date, it was a normal night out - dinner, movies and until the last part.
He actually brought me to the arcade and proclaimed that he is a pro at 抓娃娃。
I don't know what to call it in English, here's a picture I found on the web.

He actually caught in on the first try, not the entire dog bear itself, but the tag of it and....... it fell back into the machine.
He spent a total of $25 and I had to pull him away before he spends another tens of dollars on the bear which  in my opinion, does not even warrant the monetary costs involved.
Granted, I was quietly touched by his efforts but........sadly, that was just it.

I took snapshots of our texts to show the extent of his cheekiness (I reckon he's almost at the expert level, perhaps?).
You be the judge.
Orange are my words and green are his.

I sorta "disappeared" the night before cos I stopped texting him abruptly when my phone went dead.

He stopped texting me for almost 4 hours and then I received a weird text from him asking who I am.
Turned out that he "took" my advice and cleared his mind. WTH.

My last resort - claiming to be a lesbian!

I thought introducing a girlfriend of mine would divert his attention but boy was I so wrong!

I was so eager to see if he can be that cheeky in person.
He tried, once, over dinner and my glare silenced him and he behaved for the rest of the night.

I ran through the night's events in my head before I slept last night and this is the conclusion I have come up with - I will only go for the guy who treats me better than Terence Tay, my buddy because if my buddy can be that good towards me, THE ONE must be better.
Thanks ah buddy, for setting the benchmark.

#1295: What I have been up to

This is gonna be a hectic week, yet again.
Every day is booked and activities filled to the brim.
I'm definitely not exaggerating when I say one has got to make a one-week advance booking just to go out with me.
I'm already trying my very very best to free out time for meetups and gatherings so please, my dear friends, I, a full time undergraduate and part time employee, am sincerely seeking your utmost understanding with regard to my extremely busy schedule. =/

Last thursday, I had the whole day free and met up with my primary 6 classmates.
We had fishy business to settle at Manhattan's Fish Market at Marina Square.

Thereafter, we proceeded to the skybar (Ku de Ta) at Marina Bay Sands, all thanks to Eunice's meticulous ATAS planning.
I've never been up there before and truth to be told, I can't see much of the scenery because it was already night.
I wish I could go up there again when it is near to dusk.
Wanna catch the awesome sunset, like this, woohoo!

The city lights.

And then I freed some time out on Saturday (I got a rare day off work for the weekend!) to visit Tanjong Pagar Railway Station after reading the following article.

http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Lifestyle/Story/STIStory_677495.html

I invited Huiqi to come along with me (she's one of those who willingly does crazy things with me and I GREATLY appreciate that!).
This monumental building is closing its doors on by month end so I thought it would be a good opportunity to visit the site and take some photos for memorial purposes. :(

After that, we decided to head to Tampines for bubble tea (I wanted to go home for a nap because there are more activities to come in the evening but was persuaded eventually).
I wanted to try Koi's Green Tea Macchiato for a verrrry long time and yes, I had it there and then!

It was supposed to look like this with the cream yet to coalesce with the green tea but it seemed like we walked too long and it became one creamy drink.

Gonna try it the next time!

Went home to deposit my bulky cameras, did not change out of my clothes but changed accessories and tied my hair up.
Voila, a new Huimin!

Went to catch Hangover 2 and it was downright hilarious although I may detest it because some parts can be really crude. =/

Walked from Plaza Singapura to Orchard Centrepoint for Korean BBQ (after many suggestions such as Nandos, drinks at Boat Quay and Spanish cuisine at Orchard Central).

My buddy's prolly the only guy who will peel prawns for yours truly.
He's a good guy - single AND available!
Good girls, come grab him!

Because it is an unlimited buffet, I ordered more, although the guys objected because I ordered way too much, and we ended up with 3 bowls of watermelon & coconut sago EACH and tons of meat left.
Worried that we will be charged with excess food, we stayed till the closing hour and I thought of the excuse that if they were to charge us, I would say that we do not have enough time to finish all of the food.
Haha, despicable but I was left with no choice!
Yes yes I should have known. Heehee.

We were all so full that we almost vomited when we laughed.
I never tried being THAT freaking full before. Really.
I literally stuffed whatever I could into my mouth.

All in all, it was a wonderful week last week.
At least these people that I went out with won't complain for some time as I resume my very busy life.

Toodles~

PS: Thank you Huiqi for recommending the pair of super trendy spectacles! I like it. :D
PPS: I think if there is ever a day where I do not have to do anything, I wouldn't get used to such a life now that I'm accustomed and programmed to be occupied every second of my life. I am busy even while sleeping - I dream.

#1294: We are all humans, regardless of our skin colour

A white woman, about 51 years old, was seated next to a black man on an airplane.
Obviously disturbed by this, she called the air hostess.
“Madam, what is the matter?” the hostess asked.
“You obviously do not see it,” she responded.
“You placed me next to a black man. I do not agree to sit next to someone from such a repugnant group. Give me an alternative seat.”
“Be calm please,” the hostess replied.
“Almost all the places on this flight are taken. I will go to see if another place is available.”
The hostess went away and then came back a few minutes later.
“Mam, I spoke to the captain and he informed me that there is also no seat in the business class. All the same, we still have one place in the first class.”
Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued, “It is not usual for our company to permit someone from the economy class to sit in the first class. However, given the circumstances, the captain feels that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone so disgusting.”
The hostess turned to the black man and said “Therefore, Sir, if you would like to, please collect your hand luggage, a seat awaits you in first class.”
At that moment, the other passengers who were shocked by what they had just witnessed stood up and applauded.

#1293: Happy Dumpling Festival!

#1292: Erratic weather conditions in SG

I didn't quite believe that sunny Singapore is capable of flooding until I saw the pictures for myself.
I was not in town last June during the Orchard Road floods which submerged Starbucks and Wendy's (while I was scorched in Thailand).
Seriously, after having gone through the heat wave that stretched from late March through early May, I am quite convinced that global warming is a menace and causing mass destruction (though we homosapiens are the real ones who damaged Mother Earth in the first place. karma much?).

Anyway as I was saying, I can sweat so much while surfing the net at night!
Just sitting down and surfing the net, doing nothing else. AT NIGHT where the usual chilly winds blow.
It's not as if I run on a treadmill which can probably explain the perspiration but really, my body just gets sticky and sweaty while sitting down.
And I only experienced it this year and I reckon it's gonna get worse.
However, the transition from the heat wave to the sudden monsoon season is a tad too out of the blue, I find.
It was sweltering for a period and then came the torrential downpours.
Weird.

So I have found some pictures online, thanks to citizen journalism (everyone can easily post a photo up the net and be a self-made journalist, LOL) which can fully describe the severity and extraordinary flooding problem in SG right now.

OMG. Imagine my pants getting wet upon alighting. Or worse, imagine I was dressed to go on a date! DISASTER!

I could rent a kayak and row through the roads. How cool is that?

How in the world is rain capable of overturning a car?!

Wheelock Place is...in a worse condition as compared to last year.

It happened again - Starbucks submerged.

So did Wendy's.

Who would want to go to Orchard Road like this?! How to take part in the GSS then? HAHAHAHA my mind is all about the Great Singapore Saleeeee!

The funny thing is, I don't see such situations happening in the East.
Yes there are thunderstorms going on and the winds howled mercilessly, causing doors to bang and I hear noises of things breaking or falling onto the floor from my block but the extent is not as great as these pictures shown here.
Should I be glad or what? LOL. :/
