The life of a working class is
pathetic.
Today marks the 1st month of my departure from Great Eastern. I`ve embarked on another administrative job at DHL-Global Forwarding. When I compare my experiences in both companies, I really wanna smack myself HARD in the face for complaining so much about my time spent in GE.
There`s this saying in chinese that says, “ 失去过才会懂得去珍惜。” When translated into English, it simply means that one only learns to cherish after experiencing the loss. GE was sooooo good, although I have to work 11 or even 12 hours each day. GE has such nice, amiable people and I truly enjoy socializing with my colleagues. My supervisors, Fion and Claudia are considered very good supervisors already when compared to the ones I have now. GE has such nice scenery, such nice pantries which have CHAIRS, such nice and CLEAN toilets which have FULL LENGTH mirrors for me to admire myself in, and nonetheless, within-reach food kiosks, cafes and food courts for me to cure my hunger pangs.
As for that company that I`m working in now, it is located in ulu Changi South. The toilets only have 2 DIRTY cubicles and I reckon the most number of people it can fit in is at most 20. The table is so small I doubt I can even lie on it. Plus, I do not get any leg room AT ALL. The pantry do not have ANY TABLES OR CHAIRS at all and the people are atrocious. Most of my friends tell me that the working class are like that. They do not have a decent social life. They merely face their computers all day long and not utter a single word and unfortunately, suffer from bad breath. OR that they do open their mouths not for the purpose to work, but to GOSSIP. Oh my goodness gracious lord. And you all know that I`m a chatterbox. I NEED to talk ALL THE TIME, but they are NOT talking to me! What do I do...?
Last wednesday when I first reported for work, the supervisor merely told me to sit at one table and wait. I waited while she read the papers, did her own stuff and treat me as if I`m invisible. When a girl came, she just told the girl to teach me what to do. Why can`t she tell me what to do then? This is still ok. What`s worse is that she did not even tell me where the pantry is, what time the lunch hour is, and most importantly, the schedule for the company bus transport. Her cold and unfeeling attitude totally puts me off. This is when I started reminiscing about my days spent in GE where I could joke, laugh and play around with Fion, my supervisor even when we`re working seriously. I mean, I believe work becomes more enjoyable when the atmosphere is lightened up right?
The colleagues in the office are totally hopeless. They are a bunch of unfeeling and gossipy and lousy freaks to me. They do not even say "HELLO" to a newcomer like me. I seriously can`t wait to end my term of 6 weeks soon so I can be saved from further misery.
I miss GE. I really miss GE. I guess the photos are my only memories left of that fabulous workplace.
FION the wonderwoman.
The wonderful view from the ladies`. It`s astonishing.
SEE? There`s a FULL LENGTH MIRROR.
The toilet cleaners are so creative.
WONDERFUL colleagues I have.
On our last day of work, which was exactly a month ago, we decided to treat ourselves to a well-deserved lunch. GUESS where we went? PIZZA HUT!
And, not forgetting the loads of fun we had amidst the mountains of work we had to complete...
Who reads newspapers like this?
After several attempts...
I miss my desk DEARLY.
And the building.
As for now, I`ll have to unwillingly drag my feet to enter this building every morning.
